Putting their celebrity to good use while simultaneously foiling the horde of paparazzi looking to cash in on their coupling, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt plan to distribute photographs of their newborn daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt with profits going to a charity aiding African children.

The former Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-stars welcomed the arrival of Shiloh on May 27 at a hospital in the southern African nation of Namibia where they had been holed up for privacy to avoid the prying eyes of the media. She was delivered via Caesarean section and weighed in at a healthy seven pounds.

The remote third world locale did little to stop pesky shutterbugs from following the couple there in the hopes of snapping the first shots of the tyke, making both their reputations and fortunes.

The intial pics of Shiloh were expected to fetch up to several million dollars from various gossip rags willing to pay big bucks for the scoop.

Hoping to head them off, Jolie and Pitt issued a joint statement Monday using the joyous occasion of their first biological offspring to turn the spotlight to those African tots who aren't as lucky to be born into Tinseltown royalty and are in desperate need of help.

"While we celebrate the joy of the birth of our daughter, we recognize that 2 million babies born ever year in the developing world die on the first day of their lives," the crusading couple said. "These children can be saved, but only if governments around the world make it a priority."

Doing their part, mom and dad gave Shiloh her first star turn by arranging a private photo shoot. The pics will then purportedly be licensed to media around the globe through renowned photo agency Getty Images, with the money raised going to a charitable organization of the couple's choice to be named later.

Jonathan Klein, Getty's CEO and co-founder, said in a release: "We are honored that the Jolie-Pitt family has recognized our long-term commitment to these critical issues as well as our ability to use the power of imagery to make a difference in the lives of many."

No word when the pictures were taken, how much the family is asking for them, or when they'll be released. A Getty rep was also mum on whether the distribution rights were going to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Reps for Jolie, 31, and Pitt, 42, were unavailable for comment.

Ironically, the superstars' announcement came just after Pitt's ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, saw herself bounce back onto the A-list big time as The Break Up, her new comedy co-starring current flame Vince Vaughn, heated up the box office, grossing $38.1 million and debuting at number one.

Since the Hollywood hunk's divorce from the Friends star, he and Jolie have kept a relatively low profile as they avoid the hype surrounding their union.

Instead of gracing the red carpet, the twosome have often been spotted visiting refugee camps in war-torn countries as part of Jolie's work as a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador. Pitt recently became a surrogate father to the actress' two adopted infants, 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia, and 16-month Zahara, who in January formerly added his surname to theirs.
